  • What Is a Dental Crown?

A dental crown is a type of tooth restoration that completely covers the affected tooth or implant. Think of it like a cap that is permanently bonded to your tooth and provides a new layer of protection. This will improve the tooth’s shape and appearance as well as protect it from decay. A dental crown can be used for a variety of needs, whether medical or cosmetic. Well-done crowns, like those provided by Core Dentistry, are virtually indistinguishable from your natural teeth.

  • Do I Need a Dental Crown?

Dr. Alexander will complete a thorough evaluation of your teeth at your appointment and determine if dental crowns are the right solution for your needs. She may recommend dental crowns if you have:

    • A broken, cracked or worn-down tooth
    • Little or no enamel left to protect your tooth
    • Tooth pain from damage
    • A misshapen or severely stained tooth
    • A dental implant that needs to be covered
  • What Type of Crown Can I Choose?

There are several different types of dental crowns, such as metal, resin and porcelain. The right type of crown for you will depend on your needs and the current state of your natural teeth.

The best type of crown for a natural look is porcelain crowns. These are a permanent option that also work great for people with metal allergies. Porcelain crowns can be easily shaped, and their color is easy to match with your existing teeth. This makes them a fantastic option since this type of crown will be indistinguishable from a natural tooth.

"My wife and I both went to Dr. Alexander for the first time this week and were THOROUGHLY pleased with everything she did. We joined her Dental Membership program because she was so good and honest in her exam and cleanings. We have experienced several other dentists in this area that are pure shylocks. We would recommend her to anyone."

-Jack O.

"This was the most amazing dental visit my son and I have ever had! Dr. Alexander is so pleasant and made sure that she explained all our options for treatment and for future care. The entire staff was just wonderful."

-Sheila C.

Finally, you will receive a temporary crown. This will cover and protect the prepared tooth while your permanent crown is being made for you.

Once the permanent crown is ready, you will have a second appointment. At this visit, Dr. Alexander will remove the temporary crown and bond the permanent crown to your natural tooth or implant with a special cement. This permanent crown will last for ten years on average but can last even longer with proper dental care.
